The club has a large amount of kit available to members for use during training and club trips. All equipment is serviced and tested as required by authorised servicing centres, and is maintained by our Equipment Officer.
Compressor
At the end of 2006 we got our hands on our new compressor. And she’s a beaut! She pumps air at 414 bar into our two air banks which contain over 50,000 litres of double filtered air (so member’s nitrox clean cylinders can be filled from the club compressor), ready for filling cylinders. We can then fill up to four cylinders at a time from the air banks. Also on the plus side, it’ll warm the lockup up a treat in winter!
This is an amazing asset for the club, and we’re now back on track after being sans-compresser for most of 2006 when the old one died!
With our new compressor we’re back to the good old days of having “free” air on tap, with the compressor used for filling cylinders for club trips and pool sessions. Local dive shops away from Cardiff are used to refill cylinders when away on dive trips.
BCDs
The club has around 20 Buddy Commando/Pioneer/Explorer jackets, in various sizes and colours. The Buddy jackets are practically indestructable and stand up to everything we throw at them each year!
Regulators
Around 20 full sets of regulators are available in the club – all have an octopus in addition to the main demand valve, and all have space for dry suit inflator hoses to be fitted. Most have console mounted compasses. They are mainly Apeks ATX series regulators, with some Sherwood and Scubapro regulators.
Cylinders
The club has 40 steel cylinders, mainly 12 litre and 15 litre (with some 10 litres for twinning), all with a working pressure of 232 bar. Nearly all have DIN convertible pillar valves.
RIB
We have our own 6m Humber Destroyer RIB named “Indecision”. She’s powered by a Mercury 4-stroke out board engine developing 115hp. She has all the usual integrated equipment including a VHF/DSC (GMDSS) Radio, GPS and Echosounder. In addition we carry emergency materials such as distress flares, and Oxygen.
She can carry 8 divers and kit comfortably, and is used for trips to west Wales, Anglesey, and the south coast.
Semi-dry suits
We have 12 Beaver 7mm semi-dry suits available for hire to members at a reasonable price. There are a range of sizes that should fit most divers – see the size chart.
Surface marker buoys/Lift bags
The club has a few DSMBs and SMBs plus reels available for use. All qualified divers are encouraged to purchase their own DSMB and reel. There is also a lift bag available, for shot recovery.
Deep diving options
When diving deeper than 30m it is club policy that all divers should carry a seperate redundant air supply. There are two options available within the club to members wishing to dive deeper:
PONY CYLINDERS
The club has two 3L pony cylinders and regulators that may be strapped to the side of your main cylinder.
TWINNING BANDS
Another alternative to carrying a pony is to use a twinset. We have 2 sets of Buddy twinning bands which allow two cylinders to be dived as independent twins. Twin 15′s anyone…?
