Joining... as a qualified diver

CUSAC shoredivers at PorthkerrisAs an already qualified diver, joining Cardiff University Sub-Aqua Club will allow you:

  • to come diving with us on our many dive trips
  • use of club equipment (SCUBA kit, cylinders, boat, suits etc) on club dives
  • Membership to an e-mail list detailing all club trips and events
  • Ability to borrow club equipment on approved dives
  • Access to further training courses (non-BSAC divers see below)
  • A FANTASTIC social life!!

All of this can be yours for the small cost of £70 (of which £25 covers your BSAC membership.) All divers have to complete a self-assessment medical, and a checkout dive with the club.

Qualified divers are asked to provide your own mask, fins, suit (semi-dry or dry-suit), gloves, hood, weightbelt, SMB+reel, and a timing device (watch or computer) on all club dive trips.

Buying kit is expensive, so the club also has several semi-dry suits that may be hired out for club trips - see the equipment section of this site.

If you have any questions the don't hesitate to contact our Diving Officer for further information.

Divers with non-BSAC qualifications

Backwards roll entry from dive boatWe welcome all qualified divers regardless of your qualifying agency.  You don’t lose your existing qualifications when you join our club, and you can continue to learn with your original agency.  To dive with us you just need to become a member of BSAC and our club, and we will let you dive with us according to your equivalent BSAC qualification (see equivalent qualifications below.)

If you have PADI qualifications you can continue to take PADI courses with the help of our local dive shop and PADI school - Bristol Channel Diving.  Contact a member of the committee who will put you in touch with them.

To receive BSAC training (higher qualification levels and attend certain skill development courses) then you are required to cross-over to BSAC. Your existing non-BSAC qualification (which you don't lose and it still remains valid) will be recognised as a starting point for further training by the issue of a Statement of Alternative Training (SALT) at an equivalent BSAC qualification level - see below.

All qualified non-BSAC divers have to attend a brief 'Introduction to the BSAC' lesson mainly to provide an overview of the BSAC dive tables, and to give you a bit of an insight into how the club works. Then you can start diving/training!
