Once you have completed your Ocean Diver training with the club you are entitled to any further BSAC training, and a reduced membership fee in following years (currently £45 plus BSAC membership – the only additional costs being for any necessary course materials.)
We take new non-divers at the start of each university year – contact our Diving Officer or Training Officer for further information, or see us at the freshers sports fayre.
What kit will I need?
Whilst club kit (regulators, jackets, cylinders etc) can be used throughout your training and diving, we ask that all members buy some items of personal kit.
Hopefully we will be able to offer some kit package deals at the start of term, but for pool sessions you will need -
- mask
- snorkel (cheap – no need to spend more than £10)
- fins (you are better off buying open heeled fins so they can be used when you start diving in the sea – as opposed to the slipper type full foot fins)
- booties to go with your open heeled fins
- rash vest/shortie wetsuit – optional – most people are happy wearing a swimming costume and t-shirt in the pool
When you start diving in the quarry and sea you will also need
- a timing device – can be a £10 watch from Argos, or a dive computer/depth timer
- weight belt and weights – you will be told more about this when it is time to acquire them
- gloves
- semi dry/dry suit – optional as the club has semi dry suits available for hire (£5 per trip), but in the long term you need to be thinking about buying your own suit
- hood (not necessary with club suits as they have integrated hoods)
- torch (optional)
Make use of the resources available to you in your instructors and the other more experienced members of the club – pick their brains for help and advice when you’re thinking about buying kit (or anything else for that matter!)
