Home Diving Trip reports Cromhall sports diver training trip

Cromhall sports diver training trip

The trip started at the very reasonable time of 7.30 am, thanks to Cromhall being nice and close to get to.  The group was made up of trainee sports divers (Emma, Agatha, Louise and Matt D), trainee ocean divers (Claire with nearly fully functional ears), trip organiser and accomplice to Claire (Matt B), and instructors (Amanda, G and Bob).

The quarry was equipped with a port-a-loo and a very basic but none the less practical changing area.  The first dives for the sports trainees were to successfully use an SMB without getting their instructor or buddy all tangled up.  Their second dives involved “controlled buoyant lifts” and much towing of their buddies.  In addition to the towing, buddies got very intimate with each others’ noses.  If that last sentence seems a bit strange to you then you have yet to experience the fun of becoming a life saving diver!

Dinesy, who is further on in his sports training, managed to get himself, Bob and Agatha spectacularly lost when applying his compass skills.  Please feel free to mock him about this whenever you see him, either down the pub, in the lock-up, or even if you pass him in the street.

Claire had a very successful trip as she actually managed to get under the water and STAY under for her longest time to date.  She had the pleasure of diving with Baker, who was looking extremely professional in a luminous green wig.  Here’s hoping that this is one of many trips to come where the green wig will be present…

Didn’t see a single fish on either dive but G came across a tiny newt and saved him from making a new home in some of our kit that was floating all over the place.

Finally, when all were dryish and dressed, we had some cake Amanda had made.  It was absolutely delicious, highlight of the day!

We finished in good time and the weather stayed nice the entire day.  Good trip!!
